This Smart E-Ink Display Changed My Desk

In this project, I built a Smart E-Ink Desk Display — a simple and energy-efficient way to keep useful information right on your desk.

I made two different versions:
• My signature handmade brass-wire version
• A simple and elegant 3D-printed version

The project uses a large 7.5-inch E-Ink display powered by an ESP32-S3. Thanks to E-Ink technology, the display uses very little power and can keep information visible even when it’s not actively refreshing.

It can display useful information such as:
• Calendar
• To-do lists & notes
• Weather
• Date & time
• Cryptocurrency information
• Stock information
• Custom images & digital art

You can easily customize the display from your phone or computer over Wi-Fi. Choose your location for weather information, select the display language, choose which screens you want to show, adjust the switching interval, and even upload your own images.

The original firmware can also be used with TRMNL for deeper customization. However, for basic everyday use, I created my own firmware that runs directly on the ESP32 without requiring the paid TRMNL service.
